The most popular online encyclopaedia, known as Wikipedia, is a project of the Wikimedia foundation.

The idea that every person in the world should have access to the entirety of human knowledge is a concept shared by Wikimedia and Savremena International School, which strives to make quality education accessible to all. This is why their partnership is important not only for the school’s students, but also for all those who regularly visit Wikipedia to upgrade their knowledge.

What is a Wiki-school?

Mala_slika_1 (1)In 2016, Savremena International School became a Wiki-school, and its students – Wiki-students.

This means that, through their learning, writing, and presenting what they have learned to the world, they contribute to knowledge expansion on the global level.

As of now, Wikipedia has published over 20 million articles in 280 different languages, regularly read by over 100 million people; Savremena’s students will now join the efforts.

The Wiki-students club

Savremena International School has established a Wiki-students club, where all interested students who like to write can contribute. At this school, learning is approached in a completely different way, so the clubs that the students attend are not garden-variety clubs, either.

In order to become Wiki-students, the students first undergo training, where they learn how to become Wikipedia editors. After the training, the students are ready to write and publish their first article.

What are the ways in which Wiki-students contribute?

When an article is written and edited, they place it on the Wikipedia page themselves, thereby learning how to become web editors – a profession in high demand nowadays. They search for photographs and learn about copyright, and then place all the content on the page themselves, utilising their IT knowledge and becoming acquainted with the basics of writing code.

When they finish their article, Wiki-students can proudly present their contribution to everyone, because each page they make bears a sign that one of Savremena’s students stands behind it.

From next year on, all of Savremena’s students will be Wiki-students

At Savremena International School, teaching is truly different. This is why from the upcoming school year onwards the students will write their term papers in a completely new and productive way.

the school activities in other subjects as well.

The students will be able to edit and write Wikipedia articles and thereby contribute to the global knowledge that will be available to everyone in the world. Savremena International School will be among the first schools to fully integrate Wikipedia into teaching, so the articles will be written on all subjects.

This way, Savremena’s students will be able to put their knowledge to practical use, find new motivation, and receive a mark in the subjects in which their papers were assigned, all the while contributing to one of the greatest collaborative projects in the history of mankind.
