1. Sign in to your free College Board account. Your parent or counselor can’t register for you.
  2. Provide your full, legal name and other identifying information. Make sure it’s the exact same name and information shown on your photo ID.
  3. Decide if you want to answer other questions about yourself. This takes time, but it’s worth it if you want colleges and scholarship organisations to find you. Learn why you should opt in to Student Search Service.
  4. Decide whether to sign up for the SAT with Essay. Here you can see which colleges recommend or require it.
  5. Upload a photo that meets very specific photo requirements.
  6. Check out, and print your Admission Ticket.

Structure: the SAT comprises 3 parts

  • The test is in English and comprises 3 sections:Reading test (65 minutes, 52 questions)
  • Writing and Language test (35 minutes, 44 questions)
  • Maths (No Calculator section: 25 minutes, 20 questions; Calculator section: 55 minutes, 38 questions)
  • Essay (this part is optional; it lasts for 50 minutes and students are required to write 1 essay)

The Reading test includes reading and text comprehension. It lasts for 65 minutes and comprises 4 single passages and one pair. The final part includes two smaller related passages by different authors. The total word count in the test is 3250.
In the Writing and Language test, students are asked to correct and improve various passages by changing words, punctuation or word order. This section is designed to test the student’s command of effective writing, grammar and language skills. The test lasts for 35 minutes and comprises 44 questions.
The maths portion is designed to test several areas of mathematics, as well as the ability to employ reasoning and critical thinking skills in problem solving situations. The maths test comprises the following areas: algebra, problem solving and data analysis, and additional topics. The test has 58 questions and comprises two parts: No Calculator section (25 minutes, 25 questions) and Calculator section (55 minutes, 38 questions).
Some universities require students to write an essay as part of their SAT. This section, the duration of which is 50 minutes, tests effective writing and discussion analysis skills.

How many times per year can you take the SAT?
