For several years now, International School Savremena has been organising interesting educational activities and events at the end of the school year, as a way to reward the students for all their hard work.
The end of 2018 was dedicated to various presentations from guest lecturers, as well as a number of different and intriguing interdisciplinary lessons given by the teachers and students of Savremena.
Savremena’s young scientists as lecturers
This year’s science week was opened by a presentation of Year 12 students on the alternatives to oil. They gave a lecture on this imaginative topic in front of their attentive peers and teachers. During a presentation which served as a short break from natural sciences, Business teacher Ivan Eftimov and Economics teacher Marija Milić talked about how technology improves economic development.
Two more lectures marked the first day of science week and both were attended by students from all years, as the topics were very original and thought provoking. Physics teacher Ms Ana Vlašić and Ms Nadežda Golubović gave a presentation with a very interesting title: “Why so blue?”. And the second lecture was given by Ms Anđela Rodić on computer modelling in biology.
The second day of the fantastic week
Tuesday, 18 December featured yet another presentation by Savremena’s Year 10 students on the topic of nuclear power. The end of the school day was dedicated to two guests: Mr Nikola Novaković and Ms Jasmina Grbović Novaković, who gave a presentation entitled “Renewables and Chemical Energy: Pros and Cons”. The second lecture was given by Mr Bojan Ilić on poisons in millipedes and other invertebrates.
Combining natural and social sciences
Wednesday, 19 December was dedicated to interdisciplinary lessons. The first one was organised as a discussion panel with a contemporary, burning topic: (Anti)Vaccine. The second lesson was student-oriented, and involved several presentations on how the advancement of sciences changed the geographical and economic landscape throughout history. This spurred a lively discussion among geography and history students and their teachers Mr Darko Tmusić and Mr Vladimir Milosević. The final touch of this day was a lecture by Živko Jovanović on “Probiotics for plants – bacteria for the future”.
The mysteries of the mind
The fourth day of this fantastic week included interdisciplinary lessons and lectures on different aspects of the human mind. Year 10 had the opportunity to discuss the topic of language and technology with their French and English teachers – Ms Marija Ugrica and Ms Jovana Živković. The final lecture of this educational fair entitled “The impact of genes on aggressive behaviour in humans” was given by Ms Vukica Vujić. The numerous attendees started a thought-provoking discussion which continued well after the presentation ended.
Preparing for future science events
International School Savremena is aware of the fact that such events allow the students to learn and have fun at the same time. Savremena’s students broadened their knowledge on different topics, including the basics of genetics, our behaviour, the fascinating world of plants and animals, and the future of our languages and their relationship with technology.
