School stories

On 20 May, Savremena’s students enjoyed Museum Night, a cultural event taking place each May. Museums and galleries in 40 cities and towns in Serbia came to life during this Saturday night, and in Belgrade, Savremena’s students were introduced to the gems of cultural heritage, as well as forgotten people and stories untold.

Unforgettable night at museums

During this cultural spectacle, which has been taking place in Belgrade since 2005, the students got a chance to hear and see numerous interesting things from different fields of knowledge. They found out what the original Roman surgical instruments looked like and how they were used, while bioanthropologists revealed to them the secret of recognising the marks of violence caused by blunt or sharp objects.

The revolutionary teachings of Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung at the Doctor’s Tower inspired the students to look deep into their inner selves. After learning about the details of the lives of these two psychologists, they left the exhibition classifying themselves as either Freudians or Jungians.

14th Museum Night

Savremena’s students were also impressed by the magnificent Belgrade Cooperative building, and the fact that the restored “Belgrade beauty” celebrated its 110th birthday this year.

The students showed their creativity and knowledge of science and mathematics by joining a workshop on 3D art in a computer game environment, and ended their cultural adventure at the Academy of the Serbian Orthodox Church for Art and Conservation, where they discovered the beauty of icon painting, fresco painting, encaustic painting, sculpting, mosaic, restoration and conservation.

Cultural enrichment – part of modern secondary school education

In addition to being devoted to achieving great results at school, Savremena’s students are interested in extracurricular content and acquiring knowledge beyond the standard syllabus and curriculum. Recognising the wishes of its students, Savremena strives to provide them with diverse visits to enrich their world and help them build and develop their personalities.
